Second Career for Teachers-- Answer 4 Key Questions FIRST!

In this blog you’re going to learn the 4 questions to determine what’s the best alternative career for you.

Want To Quit Teaching?

Okay, so you’re not happy teaching anymore, maybe you feel like you’re made for more, to make an even bigger impact. It’s okay, we change and we grow, we become different people than when we first went into teaching.  This is normal, and actually is a positive thing.  It’s okay to be considering an alternative career to teaching.

Did you know that the average person has had 12 different careers!  It seems there’s this harmful expectation that you’re less than a good teacher if you don’t want to stay until retirement age, teaching. And this simply isn’t true!

And, just because you have a teaching degree does not mean you need to stay in teaching.  So, let’s look at what else could you do besides teaching.

You do have options.

The First Step & Question to Ask When Wanting to Leave Teaching

The first and most overlooked step when looking at a second career is you first need to start by asking yourself one simple question.  Are you better suited to be an employee or an entrepreneur?  If you’re not sure yet, I show you exactly how to find out the answer to this question in this video:

So if you’re unsure if you want a boss, or you want to be your own boss, do check out this video now! You could get another job, have another boss.  But, have you considered starting an online business?  Teachers make excellent entrepreneurs, and it’s a chance to have more freedom, be your own boss and work from home!

Four Questions to Ask When Looking For An Alternative Career To Teaching

The second step is, you need to ask yourself, 4 key questions. These questions will help you find your BIG WHY, or as the Japanese say, your reason for being.

If you don’t ask yourself these 4 questions and you just jump into another job or a business, what happens is what happened with Crystal.  She came to me after leaving teaching 3 years ago. She had already had 4 jobs since she quit teaching and she was just as unhappy as she was teaching in the jobs--she swapped one problem for another-she wasn’t using her gifts, talents, experiences, and skills correctly.

Chrystal didn’t really think through her options.  Turns out she was really better suited being an entrepreneur, not an employee, and hence why she came to me to help her start her business. I was her business coach to help her through the steps to come up with her business idea, how to test and make money with her business, the way to launching and starting to make revenue.  If you’re interested in talking to me about private business coaching, set up your 5 Freedoms Strategy Session here.

Figuring Out Your Big Why

Next, it was time for Crystal to figure out her big why, her reason for being.  Basically business is just a reflection of you, so your business should be doing what you love, what you’re good at, what the world needs and what pains you can solve and gains you can help create for people.

Once you figure this out, people will throw money at you to help them and you’ll get paid doing what you love!

Once Crystal figured out her big why by answering these 4 questions, she is now the proud owner of a successful coaching and course business, having more freedom and making more money than she ever did as a teacher!

The Freebie To Help You

These are essentially the 4 questions you need to figure out when wanting to leave teaching for an alternative career to teaching.  These questions work for whether you’re going to stay an employee or you want to become an entrepreneur and start your own business. To help you figure out what your big why is, figure out what business to start, let me share with you this Venn Diagram I created with the 4 questions.

However, there’s more specific directions on how to answer them to help you find a second career after teaching.  *Make sure you get the full sheet either above or below by putting your name and email address.

So as you see here is the venn diagram with the 4 questions.  You want to figure from your answers how you can intersect all 4 of these questions and be able to stick your picture in the middle.  This middle circle is the ultimate sweet spot.  That’s the goal to come up with one idea that is going to fit in the middle and then build your business around that or get another job.

Okay, that’s it for now!  I would love to know in the comments below, what was most useful for you?
