Teacher Quits Due to Covid & Is Happier!

Suzanne:

Hey there, Suzanne Klein here your Freedom Initiator at Rewrite Your Future. Having been a former elementary teacher and using the teaching skills that we all have as teachers starting a company growing it to $10 million in sales, selling it 10 years later and now teaching you how to do it too.

And I wanted to go behind the scenes with you today and feature one of my former students that I am so proud of all of the progress that she has made. She's a true action taker. And I wanted to have her share her story with you because it really is a story of transformation within as she started her journey and now has a business that already is having clients. So this is so exciting. I want to share her story with you.

And so Megan, let's go ahead and get started here. I think it will be best to start with you. It's been a year for you. A lot has happened. Let's kind of jump in the middle of the story of you taking a leave of absence in end of August. What was that all about?

Megan:

So I took a leave of absence from teaching, I've been teaching for 17 years, 15 in this one district and as a music teacher and I took a leave of absence due to COVID with the Families First Coronavirus Response Act the Emergency Family Medical Leave Act because I have an 11 year old son who is needing to do the virtual schooling and someone needs to be there with him while he's doing this.

So I took the leave and it allowed me the freedom to be able to explore other options for myself. I have been pretty miserable in teaching for the last many years, at least five years just trying to find different things along the way.

And finally, this year I was turned down for another job for the second time in my district. And I just thought, you know what? There's something better out there for me. So this leave allowed me the time to be able to work on building a business and be there to support my son. And as we teachers know, when you're a teacher you have that same schedule as your child. And so it's been kind of fun to be able to be there for him even though it is remote learning, be able to be there and see what that's been like to be one of those moms who is always able to pop into a building it's kind of fun.

Suzanne:

And you know, Megan, I love that you're sharing this because it is a new way of life for you. And one picture that I'll never forget that you sent me on text is your last day of school. Tell me when that was. And what was that like?

Megan:

So the last time I went into school was mid November and my last day of school officially was November 25th. And it was surreal to walk into that building for the last time and say goodbye to my colleagues for the last time. And, you know, during COVID that was really uneventful, unceremonious, if you will. And you know, but it was really cool and freeing, I mean, that word just keeps coming up. It was truly freeing.

Suzanne:

Yes, yes. And this isn't, you've thought about wanting to start in business. So you started, you came to me in August the beginning of August you started working with me in the course and also as a private coaching student, but I'm sure that it wasn't just like overnight, when you came to me that you said I'm going to start a business. Had you been thinking about that for a while that you wanted to kind of build your own dream?

Megan:

Really, what happened over the course of this year is my father passed away in May and we had to have and that opened up a lot of possibilities.Yes, it was very sad, but it also opened up possibilities. I didn't know that were even out there for me. And so it allowed me again that freedom to be able to explore outside the realm of education.

And so I knew that I wanted to coach people. I just didn't know what that was going to look like. And so, coaching comes in many forms. And so now I'm building a business that has me coaching people in a couple of different ways. So it's very exciting.

 Suzanne:

Yeah. And I do want to talk more about what you are doing now and what your business is all about but let's go back to your father's passing away. Of course, that was really tough, the beauty of it is what you took out of that was what some of your gifts and talents are. I remember you shared with me you put together a beautiful memorial service. Can you talk about what the format of that was and what you kind of realized was something that you enjoy doing and that.

 Megan:

Sure, so as a musician, I've been a church musician. My father was a minister as well. So working in that kind of an environment is not uncommon to me. It's not new. So when my father passed away, we really wanted to make sure that there was a way for us to be able to have a sense of completion and connection as a family because we have family from all over the world. My sister lives in New Zealand, everyone all around the United States. And so we did it all on Zoom. I created a digital slide show of his pictures, of his life that included his life and even my mom.

My mother passed away as well, many years ago. And so it really was a combination of this is our family and everyone who walked away from that experience just had such a sense of connection. Even though we were all in our own little spots and a sense of being able to grieve and have that sense of completion when that funeral aspect is over. And it really made me want to do it for other people.

Suzanne:

Nice. That's beautiful. That's really beautiful. And when was this?

Megan:

This was on his birthday, which

would have been July 18th.

Suzanne:

Wow. So a lot happened in the summer, July 18th, together with this memorial service. And then you started your business in August. Yes. Oh yeah. You're a true action taker. That's for sure, you've gotten a lot done. Because we're in like December 3rd, I think now, and you already have a business name, a logo, a business plan and you have your first three clients already booked and already have worked with one of them. So let's talk about your company. What is your company called? What do you do? And yeah, share with us.

Megan:

My company is called Transform with Intent and I am a transformational life coach. And what I do is I take women typically it's women who are grieving , my coaching is centered around grief. And I want us to feel that grief and work through that grief and come out the other side. So, you know, grief can be like waves, right? We all know the beach. So you can be hunky-dory going along in life and then a wave of grief hits you.

And you have to, in my opinion, it's important for us to feel the feelings of that wave of grief to be able to come out the other side and look and see the joy and the gratitude all around you. And if you don't, then you're just going to be sucked up again by that wave and go down that dark path and maybe not be able to see the light at the end of that tunnel.

And so, one of the ways I'm doing that is, I have coaching, one-on-one coaching. And the other way I'm doing it is with this virtual celebration of life or a virtual memorial service that I'm offering for other people. And it just seems that the two are really married well because even though I'm maybe not using one-on-one coaching with my clients who are doing the virtual memorial service, I really am using that coaching with them. Because there's a lot of guiding through that grief process and the planning process and it's all part of the grief. And we want to get to a point where they again feel connected with their family and their friends and be able to have that sense of completion and maybe even working with them but more, to be able to talk about, okay, where are you going to go now, now that this funeral and this memorial service is over where are we going to be headed then?

And that's what the Transformation with Intent is all about, really intentionally transforming where you are to be where you want to be and get through that loss, that pain.

Suzanne:

Beautiful. I love how well you explain that. And oftentimes we think of grief as just we think of loss as just the death of a family or friend or someone close to us, but it's not just that. Can you speak how you're helping women beyond just a loss of a loved one?

Megan:

For sure. So grief is definitely, you know, yes, we do think of a death, but it's also a grieving your relationship. Perhaps you're getting divorced or a breakup grieving a loss of a pet grieving your your job, that you've lost your job just grieving the way of life. I mean, we live in this COVID time. We are grieving the way life used to be and how can we get through all of that, feel it, with a sense of joy and ease. Again, you have to do that with intention and that's what we're doing. We're transforming here.

Suzanne:

Yes. And you have transformed my friends so much. You have had so many transformations in your life. I know you had some major weight loss, to break up, to your father, to a lot of grief that you've experienced and joy that allows you to be able to help these women from the numerous experiences that you have had in your own life.

Megan:

Definitely.

Suzanne:

Yeah, so I know you're extremely qualified to be able to really help these women Transform with Intent. And I love the name of your company. I love how you said it very slowly. So we had time to think about that. And I do think that, the two sides of your business are a perfect marriage because you will have clients that will be so impressed and will be so impressed with the memorial service, the celebration of life service that you're doing, that will want to seek you for private coaching, private life coaching. So, yeah, transformational coaching.

Wonderful, so I think we're going to wrap this up here but I believe that from the clients that you have received you're about $300 away from paying your investment off of a private coaching and the costs, and those were with your kind of beta prices. But now that'd be a different story now that you already have some traction, but how exciting is that Megan? I mean, did I get that right? And I think it's only been four months.

Megan:

It's unreal. I just thought the organic way that things have happened and in finding you Suzanne and then working with you and going through the course, and then organically just finding these clients who have really been God sends if I will, clients who have just been so willing to work with me even though I am just starting out and it's been a growing process for I think both of us. And honestly, it's been kind of working through their grief as well. And yeah, I can't even believe when we talked about that I'm about $300 away from my initial investment and we started in August. It's crazy. So I think that it's really, it is a doable thing.

Suzanne:

Yeah. It really and the fact that you took the leap and you said no more, you're not going to go back to a job that doesn't seem to fill me anymore. I want to build my own dream. And you took that leap. And so many people are afraid to take that leap. And you have bills to pay you have a son to support just like everyone else and you are making it happen.

Megan:

Yeah. The freedoms that have been afforded to me now, it's like I can go to his school if I need to get something because I'm not doing a nine to five job. Today I was writing Christmas cards because I can, it's enjoyable to have that time freedom and that location freedom. I even took my business to a different state for a couple of weeks because I can. So it's been really something.

Suzanne:

Yes. And I know that you are really big into self care. You were at the gym this morning. And if I remember correctly, you did a bit of a

celebration for yourself by going to Disney. Did I get that right?

Megan:

Yes. You did.

Suzanne:

You took yourself to Disney.

Megan:

I took myself to Disney. Yes. Because I knew that again, part of the grief process is you need to change some things up. So for Thanksgiving, I did, I went to Disney world and was very safe during COVID and everything just really safe and wearing all the precautions. And it was a beautiful time to be able to spend Thanksgiving in Disney world where it's nice and warm because in Massachusetts, it's not nice and warm.

Suzanne:

Yes. Yes. And that's so important. And it's those little things that will make you a better coach because you will have already put into practice. And that's what I've always enjoyed so much about working with you Megan is you are on such a path of growth for yourself. So that every day you work on becoming a better human being. And this is just one example of this because you didn't stay stuck in a job that wasn't giving you the joy you're going after your dreams. And you will have financial freedom. I mean, look, after not even four months you got your first client within like two months of working with me which is amazing.

Megan:

Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Thank you.

Suzanne:

No, it's been a real pleasure working with you. I look forward to continuing in knowing about your journey as you go along and I'm just so incredibly proud of you. So with that, I just willing to share your story and thank you for sharing your story with the rest of the teachers out there that will be inspired by it.

Megan:

Thank you so much.

Suzanne:

And Megan, Oh, we almost forgot if people are interested in working with you as needing a transformation in their life and seeking your transformational life coaching services or they are also and or they are looking to have a virtual memorial service. What do you call it? A celebration of life?

Megan:

I do, virtual celebration of life. I mean, it really depends on the client, but yeah.

Suzanne:

Sure. That's true. So if they are interested in your coaching or your Memorial service, how do they contact you?

Megan:

So you can contact me, Megan Errgong-Weider [email protected]

Suzanne:

Yes. Okay. So that's your email address, [email protected] and we'll have that down below. So no worries on that as well. So yeah, because you're in the process of building your website.

Megan:

I am. Yes.

Suzanne:

You have transformwithintent.com, a logo and everything. Now it's just...

Megan:

Work in progress.

Suzanne:

That's right. That's right. So excited and so proud of you. So thank you Megan, for sharing.
